Using Evidence in Clinical Decision Making

Overview

This 2 day short course provides attendees with an overview of current approaches to evidence for informing decisions in clinical practice. It is the first out of a three-workshop series in Making Decisions in Clinical Practice. (Note: each short course for Making Decisions in Clinical Practice is independent of each other)

Course Aims

Attendees will explore the development of evidence-based recommendations for decision-making options and learn how to conduct a rapid review for a specific clinical question.  There will be a brief introduction to using the GRADE Approach and the development of an evidence summary for clinical practice.

This short course is particularly well suited to health professionals and other people working in clinical organisations/environments but is open to anyone.

Shared Decision Making ToolsO

Overview

This 2-day short course provides attendees with an overview of current approaches to making patient-centred and evidence-based decisions in clinical practice. It is the second out of three series of workshops around Making Decisions in Clinical Practice. (Note: each short course for Making Decisions in Clinical Practice is independent of each other)

Course Aims

Attendees will explore Shared Decision Making (SDM) and National (ACSQHC, Productivity Commission Report) and State (CEC) requirements as well as facilitators and barriers to SDM implementation. Attendees will develop a decision tool relevant for clinical practice using the International Patient Decision Aids Standards.

This short course is particularly well suited to health professionals and other people working in clinical organisations/environments but is open to anyone.

Health Literacy

Overview

This 2 day short course provides attendees with an overviewof current approaches to making decisions in clinical practice in terms ofhealth literacy. It is the final out of three series of workshops around MakingDecisions in Clinical Practice. (Note: each short course for Making Decisionsin Clinical Practice is independent of each other)

Course Aims

Attendees will explore the concept of health literacy, and its relationship with clinical decision making. The course will provide opportunities for attendees to learn and apply skills to make health information more accessible in order to support patients to participate in healthcare decision making. Approaches to evaluating patient resources will also be explored, as well as verbal and risk communication principles with a particular focus on patient centred communication.

This short course is particularly well suited to health professionals and other people working in clinical organisations/environments but is open to anyone.
